The waiting (for Imam Mahdi’s reappearance), as one of the fundamental concepts of Mahdiism thought, plays a decisive role in directing the individual and social actions of the Shiah community during the Age of Occultation. However, non-strategic and static interpretations of waiting have sometimes reduced it to a passive and merely mental concept, thereby weakening its civilizational and social functions. The central problem of this research is to explain the nature and characteristics of "Strategic waiting" in the Age of Occultation. The research objective is to extract the characteristics of strategic expectation and explain its role in the dynamism, responsibility, and active agency of the awaiting society. This study is conducted using a descriptive-analytical method, utilizing library and documentary sources. The research findings indicate that strategic waiting is founded upon characteristics such as Wilayah-centeredness (adherence to the Guardianship), global thinking, an Islamic civilization-building approach, hope-generation, insight, dignity and independence, unity and solidarity, all-encompassing and continuous Jihad, anti-oppression, resistance, and comprehensive readiness. Accordingly, strategic waiting is considered not only a theological/ devotional concept but also an active strategy for the movement of the Islamic society toward the realization of the New Islamic Civilization during the Age of Occultation.
