The pathology of the culture of Intizar (waiting for Imam Mahdi’s reappearance) in the era of Imam Mahdi’s occultation has great significance. Within the Mahdist framework, the apostasy of the believers in the end times has been strongly emphasized by the Infallibles. However, the true nature of apostasy in the period of occultation—its origins and preventive approaches based on the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt—has received little scholarly attention. The findings of this descriptive-analytical study indicate that apostasy, in its jurisprudential sense implying departure from religion, applies only to those who consciously and deliberately deny the Imamate of Imam Mahdi. By focusing on the narrations concerning apostasy in the era of occultation and analyzing them, this research identifies the roots of this problem in factors such as ignorance, persistent doubt, hardness of heart, and confusion. To remain safe from such deviations, the study recommends eliminating these causes through awareness, insight enhancement, adherence to the Qur’an, and obedience to the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt. By providing preventive strategies, this paper aims to help avoid the potential spiritual losses resulting from apostasy.
