Tawqit (specifying a time for the reappearance of the Savior) is recognized as one of the most significant challenges in the discourse of the reappearance and has always drawn the attention of researchers. In Imamiyya narrations, tawqit is strongly condemned. On the other hand, numerous traditions and studies that discuss the signs of the reappearance sometimes seem to imply a temporal indication for it. Resolving this apparent contradiction requires a proper understanding of both tawqit and the signs of the reappearance. Paying attention to their similarities and differences can greatly contribute to identifying the roots of deviant movements and false claimants of Mahdism. This study, using a descriptive-analytical approach and emphasizing the similarities and differences between tawqit and the signs of the reappearance, analyzes the damages and deviations related to this issue. By referring to some contemporary figures and movements, it traces the origins of the distortions found in their discourse and actions. The findings show that the traditions never aim to determine a specific time for the reappearance; rather, their purpose is to describe its signs. There are numerous differences between the two; however, focusing solely on their similarities has led to mental confusion and caused serious challenges for some individuals.
