Basically, various types of media are used to disseminate the ideas of a movement. A book is one of the media that proves highly effective for presenting and spreading ideas. Ahmad al-Basri, as one of the claimants to Mahdism, has employed this medium to propagate his views. His close associates—among them Nazem al-Aqili—published Al-Arba'oon Hadithan fi al-Mahdiyyin wa Dhurriyat al-Qa'im to argue for the existence of multiple Mahdian figures after the Twelfth Imam and present them as imams. This study, after conducting research and investigation through a library-based descriptive–analytical method and by applying the principles of fiqh al-hadith (jurisprudence of hadith), examines the narrations cited in this book to prove the existence of the Mahdiyyin. The findings reveal that issues such as the lack of proper hadith family formation, misinterpretation of narrative expressions, neglect of contextual coherence (siyaq), and disregard for variant versions of the narrations constitute the most significant fiqh al-hadith defects in the cited narrations.
